I based my concept for the Sligo Gaol Hotel on the qualities of minimalistic, sculptural forms, which allow the materials to dominate. By focusing on style, through neutral colour palette and minimalistic approach to furnishings with simple and strong accents, my intention was to offer a calming environment: a hotel where everyone can escape from their hectic lives and experience the virtue of simplicity. I found the inspiration for my chosen colour palette in the layers of paint and patina in Sligo Gaol cells. Drawing from historical elements and reflecting the passage of time, the resulting colour scheme is contemporary and supports the idea of the hotel as a calming retreat.
