The Lake Isle of Innisfre

The poem ‘The Lake Isle of Innisfree’ by William Butler Yeats, has remained an inspiration to artists and architects for its power to pull us into a personal and humble setting that evokes total contemplation. I was captured by the poem’s awareness of time, light and sound. I created a series of spaces that invite users to fully embrace their own personal space for contemplation by capturing the sense of serenity found on the Isle of Innisfree.

I have always been passionate about art and design and have a keen interest in sustainability. Studying architecture at IT Sligo has allowed me to think critically and devise effective strategies for designing contemporary buildings and spaces while conserving and reintegrating our built heritage. The scope of design in architecture is vast, and studying in the North West of Ireland, with its history and culture, has been very inspiring.
