RESEARCH TRIP TO POLAND

During the summer Writing + Literature lecturer Alice Lyons travelled to Eastern Poland (on the border with Belarus) to the Białowieża Forest, the last remaining primeval forest in Europe. Supported by a bursary in literature from the Arts Council of Ireland, Alice researched the flora and fauna of the forest, its history of tree beekeeping as well as the current refugee crisis in the region. This is to support new hybrid work of poetry and fiction set in Poland during the years 1942 to 2022.

The photograph shows Alice with Michał Ksiązek, a poet, environmentalist and activist in the Białowieża Forest.
